Carly Pearce | “29” – EP Review
Carly Pearce is already making her name known in Nashville. Her No. 1 debut “Every Little Thing” designated Carly as the highest charting solo female debut since July 2015 and one of only three women to accomplish the feat the last decade. She was recently nominated for 4 different CMA Awards for 2020. (New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Musical Event of the Year, and Music Video of the Year.)
Carly also released “Cowboy Take Me Away,” a cover of the Dixie Chicks classic, back in June. You can check out our full review of that, here. Carly is back with her highly anticipated EP, 29. In honor of this release, we have decided to do a track by track review. First up is “Next Girl.”
This upbeat track is basically a letter to the next girl that the boyfriend ends up with. This song has a Patty Loveless vibe and it brings back the 80’s-90’s sound that we fell in love with. Carly’s voice sounds smooth and effortless. If it is possible at all, she just keeps getting better. The instrumentals also bring back a sense of nostalgia. The song is so intense and well done, that before you know it, it is over with. “Next Girl,” is one of those songs that you never want to end.
Next on this EP, is “Should’ve Known Better.”
This new single is extremely emotional and pushes Carly’s voice to the forefront. She really showcases her vulnerability in this new release as well. Carly keeps putting out hits and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
In the 3rd spot, is “29,” the title track to this new EP.
“29,” is basically a song about life at 29. Carly does a great job at telling her story in this track. Her voice sounds beautiful as well. This song shows that not everyone is at the same place in their lives and 29 could look different on everyone. Another solid track on this EP.

“Liability,” is another solid track from the new release. The instrumentals are on point and compliment her vocals completely. 4 tracks in and she is still showcasing her artistic abilities.
Up next on the EP, is “Messy.”
“Messy,” is a slowed down song about moving on. This track tells the story of moving on after a heartbreak. “Moving on is messy,” is the theme of the song. A story that most people will relate to. Another beautiful track.
Next up is “Show Me Around.”
“Show Me Around,” is a powerful dedication to her former producer, busbee, who passed away in September 2019. This is a beautifully heartbreaking song about losing someone close to you, and looking forward to seeing them again. Carly does a great job at tugging at your heartstrings with this song. “Show Me Around,” is full of vulnerability, which is sometimes difficult for artists. Her vocals are absolutely stunning throughout the entire song.
“Day One,” is the last song on this incredible EP.
The heartwrenching “Day One” is a first view of a fresh breakup, with Pearce anticipating a future turned upside down. It is evident how much emotion went into making this EP. “Day One,” is another one of the standouts of this new release.
All in all, 29 is a strong release. Every one of the songs are absolutely stunning. The entire EP takes you on a journey. Carly Pearce does a great job at showcasing her emotion through the song and making the listeners feel exactly what she felt. 29 is available on all major streaming platforms.
