Carrie Underwood | My Gift – Album Review

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood really needs no introduction. After winning American Idol in 2005, she has become a staple in Country Music. All seven of her albums, including her Greatest Hits album, have been certified platinum or multi-platinum, and she has sold more than 64 million records worldwide.  She has also recorded 27 #1 singles, 14 of which she co-wrote.

Carrie Underwood has won over 100 major awards including 7 GRAMMY® Awards, 14 ACM Awards including 2 for Entertainer of the Year (the first female in history to win twice), 20 CMT Awards where she holds the record for the most award wins ever for the show, 7 CMA Awards, and 15 American Music Awards with her 7th win for Favorite Female Artist – Country and 6th win for Favorite Country Album for Cry Pretty, breaking the AMA record for Most Wins in the Favorite Country Album Category.

Carrie is back with her first Christmas Album, My Gift. With this release, Carrie is guaranteed to have another hit album on her hands. In honor of this new release, we have gone track by track to review the entire album.

First up is “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.” This one starts out with some mellow instrumentals. Soon, we are greeted by Carrie’s iconic vocals. She manages to capture all of the emotion of this Classic song, right off the bat. This song benefits from having Carrie’s vocals in the forefront.

Next on My Gift, is “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and it doesn’t disappoint. Her vocals are put into the forefront again. Her voice has never sounded better. She showcases her range more in this song, than in the previous track.

“Let There Be Peace,” is up next. This one is more upbeat and even has a more Pop/Bluesy feel to it. The message of this song is pretty inspiring. It is one that we, as people, really need to hear. If released, this one is bound to be an instant Holiday hit.

In the 4th spot is my personal favorite, “Little Drummer Boy.” This beautiful track features Carrie’s son, Isaiah Fisher. Just when you thought that Carrie had done it all, she features her son on this track. The way they harmonize together is actually heart-wrenching and beautiful.

“Sweet Baby Jesus,” is up next and is absolutely mesmerizing. Her vocals are soft and subtle and pair very well with the minimal instrumentals. This one is going to be a listener favorite, just because of her vocals and the message of the song.

Next up is “Hallelujah,” which features John Legend. Their voices pair very well together. Their harmonies are also on point. Both of them perfectly capture the emotion of the song as well. This is an instant Christmas Classic.

“Oh Holy Night,” is my favorite Christmas song of all time. Carrie’s version is absolutely stunning. She showcases her range throughout the track. Make sure to add this version to your Christmas playlist this year.

“Mary Did You Know?,” is up next. This is an extremely popular Christmas song among the stars, especially this year. We have previously reviewed Dolly’s version here. Carrie’s version is beautiful as well. Her’s is more vocal heavy and still captures the message of the song. She seems to be doing vocal gymnastics throughout the entire song.

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” is up next. This song has been done over and over, throughout the years but Carrie still manages to put her own spin on it. She really delivers her iconic vocals to this Christmas Classic.

“Away In A Manger,” and “Silent Night,” are the final two songs on the album. What a way to end the album. Vocally, she sounds absolutely stunning, as she has throughout the entire album. “Silent Night,” is a great way to end the album because it sounds a bit different than your Classic version of the song. The instrumentals are where this song really stands out. It is beautifully composed.

Carrie Underwood has proven once again why she is a Country Icon, with, My Gift. This entire album is flawless and will be around for a very long time. If you are looking for a Christmas album to get you in the Christmas spirit, check out Carrie Underwood and My Gift below!
