Shawn Mendes is offering fans an early glimpse of his forthcoming album with the release of two new tracks, “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough,” on Friday (Aug. 9).
In the raw and introspective “Why Why Why,” Shawn Mendes reflects on his mental health journey over the past few years. He sings, “I stepped off the stage with nothing left/ All the lights were fucking with my head/ But here I am singing songs again/ Why, oh, why/ Ease my mind,” capturing the emotional toll of his experiences. Check out the official video below!
Both “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough” are set to appear on Mendes’ forthcoming self-titled album, Shawn, slated for release on October 18. This will mark the artist’s fifth studio album, following his 2020 project Wonder and his earlier self-titled album from 2018. Shawn Mendes took on writing and co-producing roles for the album, collaborating with Scott Harris, Mike Sabath, Nate Mercereau, and Eddie Benjamin. Additionally, Amy Allen and Ethan Gruska contributed as co-writers on select tracks.
Last month, Shawn Mendes opened up to fans about the journey behind the new project, sharing a heartfelt message: “Music really can be medicine. 2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
