The Black Plague Doctors – DYNAMITE! (Audio Cinema)

The Black Plague Doctors have a stated philosophy: the spontaneity and authenticity of the moment matter more than technical perfection. Jo-Fi and St. Gabe, the Atlanta duo behind the project, build their sound from live instruments, guitars, bass, keyboards, synthesizers, alongside drum machines, samplers, and unconventional sound sources, and they cite the Southern hip hop tradition of OutKast and Goodie Mob among their influences.

DYNAMITE! (Audio Cinema), released June 30, 2026, is their third studio album and their most ambitious project yet. The concept, in the band’s own framing, is an audio short film: fourteen tracks organized around a Hero’s Journey structure that draws a parallel between the world of prize fighters and the daily work of survival.

The Album

The recording process is part of the story. Early song structures were captured on a Roland SP404 sampler before moving to an eight-track digital recorder, with the SP404 also used as an effects processor along the way, and the material was then handed to engineer SnookNaZty for the final mix. Most of the album was recorded in the duo’s home studio, a deliberate choice that fits their moment-over-perfection philosophy.

The fourteen tracks include titles like One Day You Will, Poor Boy’s Sport, Wish You Would, Allah Mode, Smoke F.E.A.R., True Love, Pirate’s Life, There Is No Me, Dwayne McDuffie, Told You So, Birds Aren’t Real, and Without You. Even on paper, that tracklist signals a record with range, boxing imagery, cultural commentary, grief, and humor sitting side by side, and the Audio Cinema concept ties it together as one continuous piece rather than a loose collection of songs.
