Dan + Shay | “I Should Probably Go To Bed”

Dan + Shay is a local country duo. Shay has been bound and determined to make his mark as a songwriter in Nashville ever since his father brought him to town when he was eight and when he was 12-years-old. Dan is orginally from Wexford, Pennsylvania. Shay is from Natural Dam, Arkansas, but they met in Nashville in December 2012. It wasn’t until meeting Dan that Shay found someone who he naturally felt comfortable with when it came to songwriting, singing harmonies, recording and eventually performing live.
“19 You and Me,” was their first single released and it made it to number 11 on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart. Their single “Nothin Like You,” climbed all the way to number 1 in 2015. Their second album, Obsessed arrived in June 2016. The record debuted at eight on the Billboard charts thanks to the single “From the Ground Up,” which made it to number 1 on the Country Airplay Charts. This was quickly followed by a second chart-topper, “How Not To.”
Since then, they have had multiple hits, including “Tequila,” “Speechless,” and “10,000 Hours,” which he collaborated on with Justin Bieber. They have also worked with the legendary Kelly Clarkson, on their single, “Keeping Score.” They had the chance to perform with her at the 2019 ACM Awards.
After all of this success, they are back with another bound to be hit, “I Should Probably Go To Bed.” This is a powerful ballad that is a bit different than anything they have released before. There are so many different instrumentals in this song, but they go together perfectly. The vocals are on point. Shay’s vocals are put in the forefront here. His range is insane here. Seriously, is there a note that he can’t hit? They are over here playing vocal acrobatics, which is impressive. Their voices blend really well throughout parts of the song as well. Although this song is new and fresh, their voices still bring us back to classic Dan+Shay, which is important that they haven’t lost their sound throughout their records.
All in all, this is a very strong song, with powerful vocals, intense instrumentals and a wonderful story. Just as most things that this duo does, this single will be a hit. Since this is more of a Country/Pop sound, it will definitely do well on both charts. At this points Dan+Shay have made it clear that they are just going to keep popping out hits and I am not mad at it. It is very evident that they are going to be a staple in Country music for a very long time. If you are aren’t already a fan, you should be.
