Katy Perry recently completed a significant transaction involving the sale of a portion of her music rights to Litmus Music. Various sources have estimated the value of this deal to be approximately $225 million.
Katy Perry’s recent sale of her music rights to Litmus Music encompasses all five of her albums released under Capitol Records, spanning from her debut album “One of the Boys” in 2008 to “Smile” in 2020. This comprehensive deal includes her chart-topping multi-platinum hits such as “Firework,” “Teenage Dream,” “Hot ‘n’ Cold,” “California Gurls,” and “I Kissed A Girl.” Remarkably, this transaction stands as the most substantial catalogue deal for a solo artist in the current year.
Previously, Justin Bieber held this record, having sold his share in his music catalogue to UK-based Hipgnosis Songs Capital for $200 million in January. Now, Litmus Music possesses Katy Perry’s interests in both master recordings and publishing for these albums, granting them the rights to collect all future royalties generated by her music.
Notably, two of Katy Perry’s songs, “Dark Horse” and “Roar,” have surpassed one billion streams on Spotify. “Roar” also ranks among the most-viewed videos on YouTube, amassing an impressive 3.8 billion plays.
