Jake Whiskin just released a new track, “Half Asleep.” Check out the full track and review below!
Jake Whiskin is a songwriter from Leeds, UK with a sound that joins the dots between Big Thief and Manchester Orchestra, with reflective and vulnerable lyrics backlit by atmospheric New Americana. Spending his youth in various DIY bands, the singer-songwriter drifted away from music for a number of years following difficulties in his life. As music came back to him, Whiskin found stability and catharsis in songwriting – penning song after song of moving, honest accounts of his life and experiences, Whiskin began to share this music before quickly finding himself picked up by iconic Leeds label Dance To The Radio.
“Just like Springsteen, just like Elliot Smith, just like Sam Fender – When you are blessed with a voice that sounds as good as this, there isn’t much else you need to do… Just pick up the instrument, write the songs and your voice will do the talking. Jake Whiskin feels like he’s got something real special.” – Jack Saunders, Radio 1 (Long Way Home)
He just released a new track, “Half Asleep.” The new track is really well done. The instrumentals are compelling and pair well with his vocals. He has one of those voices that stand out and really grab your emotions. He has the rare storytelling ability that most artists strive for. Definitely a standout this week. Make sure to add this one to your playlists.
