Dolly Parton is a household name that really needs no introduction. Not only is she a wonderful Singer/Songwriter, but she is an actress, philanthropist, entrepreneur and just an all around beautiful person. Musically, she is best known for, “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Here You Come Again,” “9 to 5” and “Islands in the Stream,” among many others. We recently had the chance to review her new Christmas singles, “Mary Did You Know?” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”
Dolly is back with her full Christmas album release, A Holly Dolly Christmas. In honor of this iconic holiday release, we are going to do a track by track review. Lets dive right in.
First up is “Holly Jolly Christmas.” This is such a fun version of this Christmas Classic that inspired the name of the album. Dolly’s vocals are absolutely undeniable. She puts her own fun spin that really sets the tone for the entire album.
Next up is “Christmas Is.” which features her god daughter, Miley Cyrus. We have previously featured Miley with her latest single, “Midnight Sky.” “Christmas Is,” is such a heartfelt song. Dolly’s and Miley’s voices sound so beautiful together. Even with it just being audio, you can tell that they mean a lot to each other. When they start harmonizing, musical magic happens. This one is bound to be a Holiday chart topper.
In the third spot, we have “Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas,” which features Michael Buble. Another great duet between two musical icons. Again, their voices blend very well with each other. Such a cute, fun song that deserves to be played on repeat.
Up next is “Christmas on the Square,” which is not only just a song, but also a Netflix Musical Special. This is such a fun song. Probably the most Folk/Country song I have heard in a bit, which works with this catchy song. This song will definitely get you in the mood for the Netflix special which drops on Netflix on Nov 22, 2020!
“Circle of Love,” is up next. Right off the bat, you can tell this one has a different vibe than the rest. Dolly’s vocals are at the forefront here. She sounds absolutely stunning in this song. The minimalistic approach to this song really works, especially when the song really opens up about halfway through. Instant Christmas Classic.
Next up in a really fun track, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which features the hilarious Jimmy Fallon. They take on a Mariah Carey song and completely nail it. They put their own twist on it and make it very memorable. Check it out below.
Up next is “Comin’ Home for Christmas.” What a special song that really showcases Dolly’s storytelling abilities. Her voice has always done a great job at telling those timeless stories and this is no exception. Such a great, heartwarming song.
“Christmas Where We Are,” is up next, which features Billy Ray Cyrus. This upbeat track is a staple in this Christmas album. Their voices blend very well and really creates a special moment. You can tell that they have a special bond in this track.
“Pretty Paper,” is up next. This one features Willie Nelson. Such an interesting song that starts off with Dolly’s iconic vocals. Her voice is put into the forefront again, which really rounds out this track. Dolly and Willie do a great job at painting the perfect Christmas picture and get you ready for the Christmas season. Another memorable track from a perfect Christmas album.
Next up is her previously reviewed single, “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” Her voice pairs perfectly with this Christmas Classic. She puts her own fun spin on this song. Her dialogue throughout the song really brings it home. It is absolutely refreshing to hear Dolly’s version. To finish it off, she even laughs at the end, which is absolutely adorable.
“You Are My Christmas,” which feat. Randy Parton, Dolly’s younger brother. Such a special song that really showcases the bond that these two share. Both of their voices sound so great together. Vocally and instrumentally, it is a strong song that really shows just what Christmas means to them.
Last up on A Holly Dolly Christmas is, “Mary Did You Know?” Her voice just has a way of making you happy. Vocals are super strong in this song and goes perfectly with the instrumentals. This is such a beautiful version of this Christmas classic. Her voice sounds so authentic and blends well with the choir and background vocals. Dolly proves once again, why she is an icon and still a force to be reckoned with.
