Piper Connolly is a Phoenix-bred, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter whose debut EP, she’s too much!, arrives September 25th. Recorded in Los Angeles and distributed via OneRPM, the project was produced by Esjay Jones, known for his work with Billy Corgan and Dave Navarro, and Kevin “Thrasher” Gruft, whose credits include Gwen Stefani and MGK, and mixed by Grammy winner Nathan Dantzler of The Hit Lab, known for his work with Sabrina Carpenter and Teddy Swims. Connolly has described the record as a full snapshot of where she is in her life right now, moving between softer, love-focused moments and sharper, more heartbroken ones, all tied together by a commitment to being loud, genuine, and unapologetically herself.
she’s too much!
Three of the EP’s six tracks have arrived so far, each pulling in a different direction emotionally while staying anchored in the same bold, 2000s-pop-rock-influenced sound. Opening track and lead single “beautiful life” is the most purely joyful of the three, written in the middle of a new romantic connection that left Connolly newly appreciative of how good life can actually feel, and she’s described it as a bottled-up version of herself that practically demands the windows get rolled down. “unapologetic” pulls in a more reflective direction, built around self-acceptance and owning your own flaws rather than apologizing for them, a song Connolly says came together with unusual ease once she let herself write it honestly. The EP’s most intense moment so far is “body bag,” written out of a draining, one-sided friendship that left Connolly feeling written off entirely. Rather than wallow in that feeling, the song flips it into something closer to a warning shot, an alt-pop revenge anthem built around the idea that being underestimated and counted out is exactly the moment someone becomes impossible to actually break. Connolly has said she wants the song to feel empowering for anyone who’s ever been treated as disposable, less a tragic ending and more the moment the story turns in the other direction entirely.
Final Thoughts
