O.W.T.O. is the Algarve’s newest original music project, a Portugal-based band that brings together internationally recognized, award-winning musicians to play new, original music with an old-school philosophy that keeps live instrumentation and real performance at the center. The project was conceived by Dr. Paul A. Francis, who writes and produces the music, with bassist Timothy, originally from the UK, as the final founding member. It grew out of a wish to unite the Algarve’s international musicians with their Portuguese counterparts and to give new Portuguese artists a platform, and the band has played live with vocalists including Diogo Ramos and Mariana, with Grammy winner Rudy Valentino Jr. also in the lineup. “This Is Amazing” follows their debut single, “Don’t Push It.”
This Is Amazing
Francis describes the band’s sound as Motown, funk, and soul with touches of jazz and only a little rock, written to get hips moving, and that shows from the first bars. The song opens with a lively, bouncing rhythm section and bright brass accents, and the groove has a shimmer to it. Keyboards, drums, and guitar combine into a rich bed that feels both big and personal, and the lead vocal moves smoothly over the top, warm and joyful in a way that matches the song’s happy message. Silky vocal lines add to the feel-good lift, and the arrangement never feels crowded.
One of its best qualities is how it builds. Each verse has its own purpose, and the shifts in melody make the arrival of the chorus feel more exciting, setting up a hook that’s easy to sing along to. The clear production lets every detail come through, from small musical touches to carefully arranged backing vocals, which rewards repeat listens. Rudy Valentino Jr.’s guitar adds skill and polish, and the writing and production by Francis give the track a tight, groove-first foundation. That balance, between popular sounds and genuine emotion, is what gives the song its personality, and it shows what can happen when musicians from different corners of the world collaborate.
