Labule is a Lagos singer, songwriter, and performer who also works as a civil engineer, and he sees both jobs as building something people can depend on. He has headlined the Lagos International Jazz Festival, took the main stage at Felabration on October 14, and runs his own venue, Adugbo in Surulere, where he plays on the last Friday of every month.
His new single, “Bi Ere,” arrives on November 2 through his own label, Kattel Music. He wrote it himself, and it was recorded and mixed at Sambol Studios in Lagos by engineer Gbemi Davies.
Bi Ere
The song is about change that creeps up bit by bit while everyone is looking elsewhere, until one day it is simply here. Labule uses Nigeria to make the case, setting official talk of progress in areas like agriculture against the hunger ordinary people still face. As an engineer, he knows real progress is something you can measure, and a speech about it is not the same thing. He wants listeners to take a hard look around them and ask whether the progress they keep hearing about matches the life they are actually living.
The music is built to move the same way the message does. The arrangement starts out lean and adds rhythm, instruments, and vocal harmonies a little at a time, so the full sound seems to have been swelling underneath you all along. Real instruments and vintage studio gear give it a live, human feel, and his voice stays clear and forward so every line lands.
Final Thoughts
What stands out about “Bi Ere” is how neatly the sound and the message line up. The song does not just describe slow, creeping change, it builds that way, layer by layer, until you realise how much has filled in around you. Labule makes a pointed argument without ever turning it into a lecture, and the warm, live production keeps it inviting from start to finish. This is socially minded music made with care, and it deserves a close listen.
