Keogea works in a corner of hip-hop that doesn’t get nearly enough traffic these days, songs built on genuine reflection instead of flexing. “Prophets” is a good example of what that looks like in practice: no shock value, no manufactured hype, just someone working through what it actually takes to keep believing in a direction when nothing’s confirming you’re right yet.

Keogea raps from inside the doubt rather than looking back on it from a safe distance, someone still mid-struggle, choosing to trust that the setbacks add up to something eventually. He sounds sure of himself without ever sounding like he’s performing certainty for the camera, and that’s a harder needle to thread than it sounds, most rap built around self-belief either oversells the confidence or undersells the doubt. This one holds both at once.
Producer Ezzyo gives the track real room to move, saxophone drifting through it, drums that sound like they were actually played rather than programmed, layers that build without ever crowding the vocal out. Nothing here is fighting for space; every part seems to know its job. MaeSTRO! adds a melodic touch to the chorus that softens the track just enough, giving it a hook you’ll still be humming after the song’s over without cheapening the more serious ground it’s covering.
You can hear a little J. Cole and a little Mac Miller in how Keogea approaches storytelling here, that same instinct to think out loud rather than perform, but he’s not doing an impression of either one. The specifics are his own, and that’s what keeps the comparison a compliment instead of a knock. Everything about the release, down to the visuals, was handled under his own direction, and that level of control shows up in how cohesive the whole thing feels.
