DEDCHIMP is the solo project of Matthew Parisi, a Brighton-based producer and mixing engineer who spent more than two decades working behind the scenes in music before stepping into the spotlight himself. After years helping other artists shape their ideas, and picking up credits on records most people wouldn’t expect to find his name on, a chance opportunity to perform with Nobody’s Wolf Child at Castle Party, one of Europe’s largest goth festivals, left him feeling like he’d finally found where he belonged musically. DEVOUR, released September 18th on Red Chimp Records, marks his debut under the DEDCHIMP name.
Devour
DEVOUR sits somewhere between industrial, alternative metal, goth, and dark electronic music, an intentionally hard-to-categorize blend of heavy guitars, industrial electronics, distorted textures, and raw vocals, built with a strong instinct for melody underneath all the noise. Parisi has pointed to influences ranging from Nine Inch Nails and HEALTH to Deftones and Linkin Park, though the goal was never to recreate any of them directly, just to pull raw material from that same visceral, electronic, and melodic space.
Thematically, the track takes on consumption in the broadest possible sense, resources, information, technology, attention, and increasingly each other, painting a picture of a world that keeps demanding more while actively destroying what it depends on to survive. Rather than making a political statement or offering any kind of fix, DEVOUR positions itself purely as an observer, holding up a mirror to the contradictions of modern life and refusing to let anyone, including Parisi himself, off the hook. He’s described the song as a personal confession, an admission that he’s chased the same individualistic goals, career, money, possessions, as everyone else while knowing full well what that pursuit costs. For him, the song isn’t really about waking up to that fact so much as accepting that the point of no return has already passed, leaving little left to do but watch it play out.
Final Thoughts
“Devour” is a forceful, immersive entry into modern electro, and a strong introduction to an artist clearly not afraid to lean into darker, weightier textures. It’s the first piece of a larger project Parisi plans to keep building out, one centered on the relationship between power, technology, belief, and human behavior, with future releases set to deepen that connection between observer and the society he’s watching.
