Aaron Tveit is heading back to the Al Hirschfeld Theatre for one more run. The Tony winner, who originated the role of Christian in both the world premiere and original Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, will step back into the part for a strictly limited engagement of 15 performances, running Tuesday, August 18 through Saturday, August 29, 2026.
This marks Tveit’s third return to the role since the show opened. He previously came back for a 12-week limited engagement in 2023 and again for another 12-week run in 2024. Following this final stretch, Christian Douglas will take over as Christian for Moulin Rouge!’s closing Broadway performance on Sunday, August 30, bringing the production’s run to an end.
A Career Built Around the Stage
Tveit’s Moulin Rouge! run earned him a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical along with an Outer Critics Circle honor, and it remains one of the defining roles of his career. Beyond that, his Broadway resume includes originating Gabe in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Next to Normal, the title role in a revival of Sweeney Todd, Frank Abagnale Jr. in Catch Me If You Can, and, most recently, Freddie Trumper in Chess. He’s also featured on several original Broadway cast recordings, including Moulin Rouge!, Chess, Catch Me If You Can, and Next to Normal, along with his own solo live album.
Outside of theater, Tveit’s screen credits run just as deep, from Les Misérables opposite Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman to television roles in Grease: Live, Schmigadoon!, Gossip Girl, and the more recent series Earth Abides. He’s built a career that moves easily between Broadway, film, and television, but Moulin Rouge! and the role of Christian have remained a constant throughout.
