NBP Human follows up the self-released album The Fundaments with a new single built around one of the most relatable realisations a person can have.
All My Mind Is On You
The song centres on that moment when you finally understand how much someone meant to you, often long after the chance to do anything about it seems to have passed. It is the kind of clarity that only arrives with time, and NBP Human captures both halves of it, the gratitude for what you shared and the sting of seeing it properly too late.
Musically, it starts small. Gentle guitar and piano carry the opening, and the arrangement only fills out in the second half, when synth pads and a warm acoustic bass slip in underneath. It sounds like a song recorded in a real room, with the air and the slightly loose feel of live playing left in rather than tidied away. The lead vocal follows suit, close and unvarnished, breaths and little cracks included, like someone talking you through a memory, while backing vocals open up the chorus just enough to give it a lift.
What stops it from being a straight lament is a small flicker of possibility. The song never quite closes the book. Instead, it leaves a window cracked open, half hoping the story is not finished yet. Plenty of listeners will recognise that feeling, and it gives the single a quiet, lasting pull.
Final Thoughts
“All My Mind Is On You” is an honest look at love seen clearly in hindsight, with just enough hope left in it to keep you listening.
