Noble is a Galway, Ireland alt-indie project led by songwriter and frontman Si Noble, joined by Gráinne Bleasdale, Mosey Byrne, Alan Cassidy, and Brendan Feeney. Their new single, “Warm Air,” is the lead track from their debut album, The Witching Hour, due October 29th on Blowtorch Records.
Warm Air
“Warm Air” captures the specific, fading feeling of a summer evening that’s already starting to slip away, hazy and unhurried with a bittersweet edge running underneath it. Acoustic guitars and layered strings carry most of the emotional weight, swelling gradually rather than announcing themselves, and the arrangement stays patient enough to let that slow build feel earned by the time it peaks. Lyrically, the song follows someone stuck in a relationship or situation they already know is over, caught in a kind of paralysis about actually doing anything about it, with the title image standing in for the moment they finally find the nerve to move forward and let that weight go. The production, handled by Mercury Prize-nominated songwriter Ed Harcourt at his Wolf Cabin Studio near Oxford, gives the track real room to breathe. Nothing feels rushed or overcrowded, and the mix leaves enough open space for the melancholy at the song’s core to come through naturally rather than being pushed on the listener. The album was recorded by Si Noble, Alan Cassidy, and Harcourt, with violin contributed by Harcourt’s wife, Gita Harcourt-Smith, and mastered at Abbey Road Studios.
Final Thoughts
“Warm Air” is a patient, well-produced return that trusts mood and melody over any obvious hook, and it’s a promising first look at what The Witching Hour has in store. The album will be available on streaming, a limited 150-copy vinyl pressing, and a short CD run, with Noble playing a launch show at Galway’s Blue Note on November 1st alongside support from Sakura.
