Adams’ vocal stays gritty and locked in throughout, and once the chorus finally cracks open it hits like two things at once, a declaration and a confession. It’s dramatic without tipping into corny, and it manages to feel personal even at its biggest moments. As an introduction to the record, it nails the assignment: big, moody, and somehow still close to the chest.
