Lizzie Cates | “We Can’t Be Friends”

Lizzie Cates

Lizzie Cates is originally from Reno, Nevada. After receiving an ISSA Award for her breakout song, “Strangers,” in 2017, she made the move to Nashville, TN. She began writing with notable writers and playing iconic venues such as The Bluebird Cafe. We have recently featured Lizzie Cates with her single, “I Like The Way.” We also had a chance to sit down for an interview, which you can check out below.

Lizzie is back with a new single, “We Can’t Be Friends.” This is a very catchy song about not being friends with your exes. Here is what Lizzie Cates had to say about the new song.

“I feel like everyone has that one ex that ruins everything. That one that keeps coming back. Sometimes, no matter how much you try, you just can’t be friends. Texting your ex causes more drama then it is worth. My cowriters and I all shared our ex stories and came to collective decision that exes ruin everything. This is a song that will make you want to roll down your windows and singing at your lungs. I hope to like and relate to my brand new single “We Can’t Be Friends”.

I absolutely love all of the FRIENDS references in the song. “We were on a break,” and “I will not be there for you,” is just two of them. Such a refreshing song and pretty smart to incorporate these lines into the song. She is giving me Taylor Swift vibes in this song, which is always a good thing. Her vocals sound stunning in the new release. This is one of those songs that deserves to be played on Country Radio. Make sure to stream the new song below and check out “We Can’t Be Friends,” on all major streaming platforms.
