Liddy Clark | Interview

Liddy Clark is a 21 year old, Nashville singer/songwriter. She has performed at iconic venues like the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and opened for artists like Scotty McCreery and Joe Nichols. We recently had the chance to interview Liddy Clark, in honor of her single, “Hit and Run,” releasing last month.

Music On The Rox – Thanks for doing this interview with me today. I really appreciate it. So, How did you get your start in music?

Liddy Clark – I started when I was 7 years old! I had just moved to Florida with my family and found out that I was (distantly!) related to Pocahontas, so I wanted to pay tribute to her by singing “Colors of the Wind” at my school’s talent show. I won an award that night, and I continued taking vocal lessons and participating in musical theater until I started creating my own music!

That is such an great song and an awesome story too. Every artist has their own style of music. How would you describe your music and your songwriting style?

I’d describe my sound as West Coast Pop with Folk and Electronic influences. My songwriting style is very honest, I don’t filter the lyrics to say what I think people want to hear and rather what I want to say.

That is amazing. I always say that you should stay true to yourself. It is refreshing to see an artist doing that. So, you post some covers for your massive social media following. What is your favorite one that you have done?

I really love the cover I did of “Vienna” by Billy Joel! It’s my favorite song, and it took me a while to learn the piano part for it, so I appreciate other people seeing the effort I put into it.

That was such a good cover. Let’s switch back to your music. What is the story behind, “Hit and Run?”

I wrote this song a few years ago with some other co-writer friends of mine, and at this point we’ve recorded the song like 5 different times with different productions. This latest version we released in November of 2019, and I feel like it’s the best representation of a jumping off point for where my music is headed.

These are pretty crazy times that we are living in with Covid-19 and all of the shutdowns. How are you staying busy during Quarantine?

I’m trying to find new projects to take on! Whether it be finishing recording my album or learning how to make friendship bracelets, I really love learning new things.

One question that I try to ask everyone is, If you could duet with any artist, who would it be?

I would love to duet with Ed Sheeran or Julia Michaels! They’re both two of my favorite songwriters and I think we could create something cool together.

That would be awesome. I feel like both artists would go really well with your voice too! The Music Industry is tough and sometimes, pretty cutthroat. What advice do you have for someone trying to make it in the music industry?

Always be kind to other people! You never know who you could be talking to, but also it’s just a good principle to be a nice person in general regardless of personal gain! Karma is a real thing, folks.

That is really good advice. I feel like there should be more kindness in the world, especially right now. What has been your biggest accomplishment so far, musically?

I really loved getting to play the Country Music Hall of Fame & the iHeart Radio stage in NYC; those were some of my favorite performances I’ve had thus far.
